my daughter and husband think it smells like centipedes!
To me it smells like band aids...Humalog smells medicinal like band aids ...
Yeah, Band-Aids...and maybe a little like dry erase markers!
wow....so many band-aid responses !
what a funny thread.....it took me awhile to place the smell.....but....I think it smells like the inside of an empty vitamin bottle.
Is this true ??
I want to know if there are any more insulin tasters out there !!
VERY true !!
Here's another vote for insulin smelling like the old plastic Bandaids!
I'm with the bandaids group, Jake's growth hormones smells the same way
DH and I have had this conversation before. We both agree that we LOVE the smell of insulin. We have decided that we love it because it is a smell of security to us. It's the smell of life for our baby.....weird, I know.
It kind of reminds me of skunk.
EXACTLY!!!! You are the only person I know of who has said this, and I've said it since the day DS was diagnosed!
My grandmother's driveway was lined with railroad ties, and those ties were the first things I thought of after smelling his insulin.
Creosote is the name used for a variety of products including wood creosote and coal tar creosote. Wood creosote is created by high temperature treatment of beech and other woods, or from the resin of the Creosote bush.
The term creosote, however, is most commonly used to refer to coal tar creosote. Coal tar creosote is an EPA-registered wood preservative. It is distilled from crude coke oven tar, and is mainly composed of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), but also contains phenols and cresols.
A common denominator of railroad ties and Band-Aids: Phenols!
Looks like we're all on to something!
This thread has been interesting! I've always thought insulin smelled like a hospital. And quite frankly I don't like the smell of hospitals. It doesn't bring back good memories.
I just took a good whiff, since I've got the insulin pen in hand (logging Alex's numbers) and yup, it smells like Band-Aids. Caught a test squirt in my hand and did the taste test -- yucchh!! Beg to disagree with Emma, but definitely not milk-flavored. Maybe you were tasting the skim, err, I mean the Lantus!
You know, smells have always been significant to me. DH rolls his eyes alot when I talk about them. (but then I can smell a skunk 10 minutes before he does! IMHO it's a lack of interest because of lack of smell...)
I've definitely thought bandaids, which make me think of latex. I have a terrible cold right now or I'd smell it right now.
RR ties are interesting - I'll have to sniff my mom's the next time I am in her state!
You guys rock, you know that, right?
Insulin and the smell of Band-Aids
As a member of a family of diabetics, I have always noticed and wondered why it smelled like band-aids when a shot was drawn.
Smells like life!
This came up once. Maddie just told me that it smells like diabetes.
i have never took the time to smell Ashleigh's insulin LOL! So since her lantus pen was sitting beside me i took a sniff of it. Yep gotta agree it smells like band-aids.
To me it smells like bandaids...
