Hi all, so from Canada, but we will be coming to Sun City West, AZ quite a bit. We would like to be able to get a doctors prescription for supplies to keep here in the event there is an emergency. Anyone have any ideas what we can do to avoid paying too much out of pocket (called one place and she said it would cost $118 and she couldn't even state that we could get a prescription)?

I think you could go to a walk-in clinic with a letter from your endo and get prescriptions after seeing their doctor. You would be charged for a visit. Both the appointment and the prescriptions would be significantly more expensive than in Canada. Many US citizens travelling abroad buy travel health insurance that will pick up expenses that their US-based insurance won't cover. Perhaps there is a similar product for Canadians.

Take your supplies with you, leave extras there, always carry some with you, have a frio bag to keep insulin cool while traveling. Too expensive to buy in the USA, and usually if you have extended medical, they'll only pay in an emergency(breakage or such), and it has to be pre authorized by them. Goes for travel insurance too, but D isn't covered as it's pre existing!

Unfortunately the $118 doesn't sound too bad for a visit on private pay these days . . . you may find some place that charges less, you might want to try urgent care. The prescriptions will be pretty pricey here also . . .

That seems like the simplest solution.

Would you be staying long enough to have to get refills?

I know there are more than a few here online that live in AZ, maybe you can network with them and thier endo's to have a contigency plan if you need supplies/samples.
