Are the teens always able to find a spot on the ride to put their small bag of diabetes stuff? Or what do they do?
We used to take pumps off for certain rides. Since we will not be there to hold them do kids just disconnect for those type rides?

That's a great question, Carol. In the many years that we've been taking the teens to theme parks (and that families have been going to the parks as part of the conferences), we've found a wide variety of ways of managing 'pumps on rides.' We suggest that you speak with the pump company and with your own diabetes team, and get recommendations for how you would like to manage the situation. At FFL, parents are ALWAYS in charge of managing their children's health, whether it's their type 1 or any other condition.

That said, on Friday, the Teen Coordinators have a schedule for the kids to come back to their home base to check bgs several times during the day. They are very strict about this - if a teen doesn't show up for a check-in time, we will find them and escort them back to the hotel... and find you. If a bg is something that might require action, we will have your teen call you to confirm what should be done. We will always treat a low right away.

We will have lots more info about the Teen Day as we get a bit closer. If you have a specific question now, please send it to me: Laura.Billetdeaux@childrenwithdiabetes.com

    Thanks! :cwds:
