I am curious what happens at the Swear in and 2nd meps testing?

The recruiter picked him up at 6:30am. My son said we should not come to the ceremony... There is a ceremony? And parents don't attend?
So military folks I am curious what happened to my son who told me it would only be a few hours, then he was going to work and pick up Amb at 5pm.

HE never came back?? Did he get shipped out? Wait can they do that?
He already went to the hotel and physical part, he took the test on the pc for determining intellect....Weeks ago.

Over dinner he was excited he was going to go swear in and then go to work.
And he repeated I will pick Amb up from hs so he could visit with former classmates.

I will be back ...got go pick up my dd at hs....this is sooo unlike him. He just disappeared.

I am glad you got him back! :D They don't even know we freak - they should be able to tell after all the times it happens! Congrats though - it must feel good that he has his career sorted out.

he left at 6:30 am and returned 11 hours later. The whole process to fill out forms only takes 2 hours. But apparently they have to wait for everyone to swear in. They aren't allowed to have cell phones with them in the building.

Some interesting rules...and yes I kinda did freak! Thinking maybe swear in means on the bus or plane you go straight to boot camp. (non military family here...so I am bit clueless with what is expected)

I am proud of him, its been his goal for 3 years.

He wanted to work his way up, although he has 1 yr of college - he will start with a promotion. Slight but still nice

As a Marine wife, I would just like to point out that he doesn't actually earn the title of Marine until he graduates from boot camp ;)

Congrats to him, though! I wish him the best of luck in everything!

Well, lets see - my 10 1/2 hours consisted of -

    Blood alcohol test
    drug test
    walk like a duck test
worst gyno exam of my life
    lots of paperwork
I think there was some test
sitting, sitting, sitting, sitting...oh, and waiting

My DH is a Marine- and we have been married 7 years. We were high school sweethearts and went through the whole recruiting process and all the details (boot camp, MCT, MOS school, first duty station.. etc.) together. If you have any questions now or in the future, I'd be glad to provide insight. =) The swearing in part was neat, I have pics from ours. He must have been told by the recruiter not to or something? I do remember DH at the time telling us "it wasn't necessary" but we went anyways. ;)

Please keep me posted on your experiences -if you'd like- would love to hear about his progress!

Ahh yes, that was the overnight hotel and physical test...he did that a week ago. This test was more forms for enlisting....and swear in.

He walked like a duck too.....mmmm must want to make sure they can duck under fire.

I apologize he is not a Marine until after bootcamp, he is officially enlisted to be a Marine.:)

Thanks for all yr info, I have much to learn about the Military.
