We have been pumping a month now and it dawned on me today that no one ever told me if I will always be checking Haydens BG two hours after we bolus him or is this just when you first start? How often does everyone else on a pump test. I have been checking everytime before he eats anything and two hours after a bolus. Also at 12am, 3am.

Well, we've been pumping for several years now, and I do usually check my son two hours post meal if I don't know how something will impact him...for example, a new restaurant, a birthday party with cake, pizza, and lots of activity, etc. If we are just hanging out at home eating normal stuff with normal activity, I probably wouldn't check him two hours post meal unless he feels symptomatic. Hope this helps!

For us, most of the time, 2-3 hours after he eats a meal, he eats a snack, so I check then. I am a bit less diligent about checking pre-snack than I am about checking pre-meal. FWIW, we were told that we did not have to do the 2-hours-after check once levels were set.

I have been T1 for 19 years, since I was 11, and I still check 2 hours after I eat. The way I see it, you cannot treat or correct if you don't know what it is. If Something i eat shoots my bg sky high, then I need to treat it, not let it ride. My dexcom makes this a lot easier now though.
