    For children who are unpredictable eaters, insulin is given after eating. This way, there is no force feeding.

    I don't know what insulin regime the toddler is on, but being on a long term insulin like Lantus or Levemir (once a day), plus a short acting insulin like Apidra or Novalog after eating is the easiest way to manage this. NPH insulin requires the caregiver to feed the insulin.

    Managing diabetes has a lot of unknowns for you right now. Be patient with yourself as you learn.

    Most toddlers drink juice -- this is a handy food to raise the blood sugar.
