Hello all, I am new to these boards and am still learning a lot. Can anybody tell me what MDI stands for? My feeble brain can't figure it out. Thanks!
MDI is multiple daily injections There is a thread in the "stickies" section that breaks down acronyms http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/showthread.php?t=11843 Hope this helps!!
Decades back, the standard treatment for diabetes was just two injections per day. A lot of studies showed that using more injections got better blood sugar control, and very few type 1 diabetics are now using only two injections per day. MDI originally meant "using three or more injections per day", but these days it generally means using shots rather than pumping, and those on these forums who do take only one or two shots per day will still say they are MDI.
Really? I thought it just meant "shots" My daughter takes at least five shots a day including Lantus. We have always called it MDI. We do have her pump sitting in my living room though waiting to hear from the CDE about classes!
I use it like this... Using 2-3 shots of R/NPH is "conventional therapy" Lantus+Log (4+ shots) is MDI or "intensive therapy". I'm not sure how to peg Wilf. Maybe it's "intensive conventional therapy"
