I am looking for athletes in the coming Winter Olympics which have Type 1D. Found Kris Freeman this morning: http://krisfreeman.net/ This video shows him wearing an Omnipod and Dexcom; http://content.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,67820056001_1967157,00.html More recent articles: http://parade.condenast.com/258394/...s-freeman-goes-for-gold-with-type-1-diabetes/ http://www.diabetesforecast.org/2014/feb/behind-the-scenes-with-skier.html
We are rooting for Kris! He's from NH In 4th grade there is a project on downhill skiing/history of NH skiing and she got permission to do x-country. We wrote to Kris and he sent us this really nice autographed poster and his story and how he deals with T1d and competing. He actually was dropped from the US Ski Team, so he made it there as an independent athlete. Because he was off the ski team, he lost insurance but a local ski resort hired him as a nordic instructor/consultant. Here's the story: http://espn.go.com/blog/olympics/post/_/id/3876/kris-freeman-gets-fourth-olympic-nod I hope he has better luck this time!
Kris is a great guy! We got to meet him at FFL a couple of times, and we really enjoyed his presentations and talking with him. We will definitely be cheering for Kris in the Olympics again this year.
