I have been trying to get private insurance that's affordable but every insurance company I have looked in to wants to charge me 500 or more just for me because of my diabetes. Has anyone been able to find an affordable insurance company?

Most insurance companies, if they'll cover someone with T1 at all, charge an increased rate...sometimes three times the amount you might normally pay. This will change, thank goodness, in January of 2014. In October of this year, you'll be able to research options in the various exchanges in each state. Until then, I would look into options in your state. If you've been uncovered for a while, there might be more options than if you are looking to switch insurance. If you include your state in your next post, some members might be able to give you some better advice!
