We get 300 a month which I think is the max, but I was wondering if people were able to get more for hteir insurance companies, and if i should try. Some months we have extra but then we get wacko numbers and use them up. This month we may run out!

We just got Matt's prescription rewritten to allow 300 strips a month. It had to be approved before we could get them. He used to get 200 a month, but we didn't think that was enough now that he is pumping.

    For the poll, I selected 250 because 300 wasn't a choice. :cwds:

    400. Hopefully, this will stick. I had to fight a bit for it.

Our insurance only allows 200. Our Endo fought with them and got Prior Auth for 350. She tried to get us 400, but the highest they would go was 350. We still run out every month by day 26 or so and we can refill on day 24.

How do you guys do this! We only get 200 a month and that was a big battle. We used to only get 4 strips a day. It took me months to get 200. We run out all the time, and of course I still test her so we're spending gobs on strips.

How did you get the 400 a month? What insurance do you have? We have Cigna.

    Thanks!

We get 400 per month. 6 boxes (50 each) for my SD and 2 boxes for my husband. My husband gets the same brand so we can use them for SD or him.

We get 300, but I run out most of the time. I need to get it raised to 400.

    Thank you

Thank you for all that responded, I am going to try to get the 400 from our insurance. With my little one now attempting to test herself more often and strips that don't always want "suck up" we have had more than a few errors with the One touch strips. I wish they would cover 2 types of strips, The one touch for the PING and either contour or Aviva for my DD, those ones suck up faster for her.

I have BC/BS. I actually called the insurance company (original CDE said no way they'd cover more than 300, so she wouldn't write it). Had the BC girl on the other end keep plugging in numbers until she hit the ceiling. That was 400. So new endo wrote "test up to 13 times per day." So it took changing endos on my end.

I don't know what Cigna would have done. We had Cigna at dx, but it changed to BC/BS during his hospitalization. (Had an insurance change during childbirth with him too.) What timing he has.

Four hundred. We did need a letter of medical necessity from the doctor, but once we got that faxed to the insurance company, it went through that day.

I have an HMO through Blue Care Network of MI. It's a plan specific to my employer (a large university). They have top notch coverage for diabetes meds and supplies. Back when we first got the approval for more than 200 strips I did have trouble because the DME supplier we used kept saying that they endo's office was writing it wrong and refused to even submit it to the insurance company-they were beyond rude. I eventually called the insurance company (in tears I'll admit) and explained the situation. They told me how the endo's office needed to write it and how they needed the letter and gave me the number to fax it to. A few hours later we had the strips.
Later we needed it upped even more and it went through no problem.

We only get 150 a month :( we always use more than that. We have to buy the extra. I hope we can get that changed at our next endo appt.

We get 400 but had to get approval. The approval lasts for 1 yr then I will have to fight it again. We have BCBS of Oklahoma and they only wanted to give us 200 a month.
