Ryan is getting ready to do a Science Fair project...and he wants to poll a bunch of people and find out what they know about "diabetes." His hypothesis will basically be that most people know some about Type 2 and very little about Type 1.

Do you guys have any ideas of the questions he could ask? They should be multiple choice answers so he can quantify the results...

    Thanks in advance!

What a fun project. I don't have any ideas, but will think about it. I hope Ryan has fun with it.

I think True or False questions would be easy. Here's a few. Neat project!

Type 1 diabetes be can not be controlled by dietary changes alone. T/F

The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is not known. T/F

Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age, but it usually starts in people younger than 30. T/F

I think the true/faulse questions sound easy. Maybe you could do Type 1, Type 2 questions. For example: Which type of diabetes do you always need to take insulin for? Which type of diabetes can sometimes be prevented? ect.... Maybe give them an fact sheet that answers the questions they were asked afterwards. I hope Ryan has a good time with his poll. Jamie

Those are great ideas...Ryan definitely wants it to be educational as far as the display, but that is a great idea for the respondents! Thanks!

What should blood glucose values be for a non-d person?
Can a person with diabetes eat ice cream/chocolate/etc?
Does an insulin pump cure diabetes?
Does an insulin pump mean no more finger sticks or shots?
Is an insulin pump surgically implanted?

    Great questions posed by all!

    How about:

T/F T1 diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar.
T/F Carbs breakdown into sugar in the body, resulting in raised bg levels.
T/F T1 can be "cured" by taking a pill, or by a change of diet.

This is a really great project. Maybe you could even post the symptoms for Type 1 and Type 2.

Ellen...thanks for that link. That is great...we will definitely use information and question ideas from that.

Amy...that is a good idea...to post the symptoms for Type 1 & 2...maybe on the info sheet he gives the respondents...and on the display.

You guys have given us great ideas! Thanks!
