    keytone meter

Our endo gave us a keytone meter...whenever we have appointments, they give us new strips for it. I had to ask for it, because we were having trouble checking ben for keytones with the cotton ball in the diaper method, but it was free.

Thanks for the info! Just tonight I saw this meter on sale at Walgreens for $9.99. So if you want two of them - the free one and a cheap back-up one call your Walgreens Pharmacy and see if they have them on sale in your area too. We only use our Ketone meter a few times a year but I'm always so thankful to have one when I need it.

OMG! I just got home from the pharmacy 100$ for meter and 10 strips. That was with insurance. I should've checked here first.

I believe you can get the Freestyle Lite at Walgreens for $29.99 and there is a mail in rebate for up to $40 in the box itself. So it is free but you have to wait to get your money back :)

Thanks for the info on the strips. Our insurance considers it a NEVER covered item. We were told the strips would cost $63 for 10 and that was with a 20% discount. Disgusting! We'll be checking out those options.

With a child in diapers, it is a necessity for us to have the blood ketone meter. You can only expect a soaked cotton ball to be moderately accurate. I wish the insurance companies would realize these things and think logically.

Our insurance company is the same way. It is not their "preferred" brand so the 10 strips which are $45.00 at our local phamacy through the insurance company would cost me $60.00.
How they consider that one you got me.
So, if I can at least get the meter cheaper or free I am happy(ier).:p

Thanks! I need a second one for school. When/if Alex starts pumping it will be a little more piece of mind.

We paid full retail for our first one, so I deserve a free one!

Thanks! We seldom check for ketones, but peeing on a stick is never a fun activity!

Edit: I just mentioned the free meter offer to my DD. She laughed at me and said, Great, maybe you could give it to me for my birthday, that would be a dream come true. Hmmmm..... I guess she isn't as excited about it as I am.

Abbott called me to verify my address and left a number to call back, but it was erased--does anyone have the callback number handy?
