No, this really is not what it seems. No need to panic. It concerns hospital and dialysis patients, not our kids.:cwds:

You right Sarah, no need to panic, but I beg to differ, it concern our kids due to wild use of maltose, galactose and xylitol on food/drinks.
The FDA notice say "Any product that contains, or the body breaks down into, the sugars maltose, galactose or xylose"

Being aware of the potential errors(high when in fact in range or low) on home use meters of accu-chek, freestyle, cosmo system and omnipod system(both use freestyle test strips) maybe can explain unexplainable lows in children after sport activities and Gatorade use to keep BG in range, or maybe prevent this lows by using an other meter to confirm high BG before correcting a high, after using a product containing maltose, galactose or xylitol.

    Foods highest in Maltose http://www.nutritiondata.com/foods-000013000000000000000-2.html
Many of us use sport drinks for our kids Sports drink, PEPSICO QUAKER GATORADE, GATORADE, fruit-flavored, ready-to-drink [thirst quencher]
    Maltose: 1539mg

    Foods highest in Galactose http://www.nutritiondata.com/foods-000014000000000000000-w.html

Xylose/Xylitol is used in foods such as chewing gum, gum drops and hard candy, and in pharmaceuticals and oral health products such as throat lozenges, cough syrups, children's chewable multivitamins, toothpastes and mouthwashes. In the United States, xylitol is approved as a direct food additive, in unlimited quantity, for use in foods for special dietary uses, flavoring( Cristal Light etc), color.

It's my reading of the material that the substances would need to be infused, not consumed by mouth. I continue to feel that this is not relevant to our situation. But to each their own.

If this were relevant to our families, then a Health Notification regarding foods being consumed by people with Type 1 would be issued. It was not - instead it pertains to drugs and therapies..

Hospitals are notorious for "treating the meter" rather than treating the patient.
