Teacher called and said the class won a ice cream party. At 1:15 2 hours after lunch blood sugar 459:eek:. I guess I under dosed at lunch. ( I hate school luches) I went ahead and let him have the ice cream with his class. Ice cream was 19 cards gave insulin and also gave a correction. 2 hours later 259. Did I do the right thing by letting him go ahead and eat? I did not want to break his heart and say no.

Yes you did the right thing. You dosed and corrected and let him be a kid like all the rest.

    Just MHO. Well done!

does he always check 2 hours after lunch? Sounds like you caught a high and were able to correct for it--good job---that deserves some ice cream:D

Sounds like it turned out great!!

I think you did the right thing - How heartbreaking would it have been for him if he had to get a shot AND NOT get the ice cream! I could just see the pitiful look on Tyler's face if I did that to him - it would throw him into a "I hate diabetes" mode and I just don't think its worth it.

You are going to test and treat later anyway, so if there is a problem you will catch it and fix it. I'm right there with ya ;)

Yes you did the right thing.

I know for Megan at least she already feels different and left out of somethings so for things with a group, especially if she earned them with the group, it will ALWAYS be yes.

It's only a number. You know the cause, you dosed, he came down.

Most important, did he enjoy it?

I would have done the same thing. Anything to stop them feeling different.

Oh, I absolutely think you did the right thing-- caught the high, dosed, let him be a "normal kid." Couldn't have done a more right thing, IMO. :)

You did just the right thing. The goal is for them to within reason do whatever they wish with their lives. You will have learned lots about bolusing ice cream today (need to give extra to account for the fat!), and he will have had a good time. Well done! :)

That's what I would have done.

Though if it was something that could be taken home to be eaten later AND I knew it was something that Lia wasn't really fond of I'd have them ask her if she would mind taking it home. There have been a few times where they were having multiple treats in one day (yes, crazy I know) and I would tell her to pick just one. Sometimes she was ok with it and did that and other times she'd want it and I'd just have to let it go. Not worth the angst that D sometimes causes her in that case.

Obviously, ice cream doesn't travel well, so I'd have just let her have it.
