The Collaborative on Health and the Environment (http://www.healthandenvironment.org/index.php), an organization that brings together researchers, health workers, patients, advocates, and others, is starting an initiative on diabetes that I'm going to coordinate. I encourage anyone interested in the environmental factors that may contribute to diabetes to get involved.

Right now, the working group is listed online as "obesity" but will change to diabetes and obesity shortly. Type 1 and gestational diabetes will also be included (my son and I have type 1).

One focus will be the new research on environmental chemicals and diabetes- see my website, http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org, or the National Toxicology Program's website on diabetes/obesity and chemicals at http://cerhr.niehs.nih.gov/evals/diabetesobesity/index.html.

I also have a listserve on my website, for info on diabetes and chemicals.

    Thanks!
    Sarah Howard
