We just upgraded from a Dexcom G4 to the G5.

Can the receiver and the iPhone work at the same time? It seems like when my son has the receiver and the phone near each other, only 1 can work at a time.

Ours will both work. However, we learned the hard way not to try to calibrate them both. Only calibrate one of them, and the other will register it eventually. We typically calibrate on the phone, then put the two devices together for about ten minutes. That seems to sync them. We were getting very different readings when trying to calibrate both devices. You probably will notice that you don't have as far of a range with the receiver as you did with the G4.

Just called Dexcom on they said absolutely, you can have both the receiver and iPhone/smartphone on at the same time.
