Hello, Its been a while since I've been on this site, so fogive me if something similar has been asked recently. My son is 7, in first grade, Type 1 w/ MDIs. I have been trying to find after school care for him for a while. I live in a smaller town and I do not have a lot of options for day care that have room for him and work with child care assistance. I talked to the after school care program at his school and while they have openings, the district nurse said they can not take him because of his diabetes. Something about needing someone there with training and not being able to do it since its after school hours. Do I really have no other say in this? It seems like one of the staff members could be trained just like when he did the after school care program in his old district. How do I find out what laws exist in my area to see if there is anyway to get around this? Now, I will say this was a second hand message from the person that runs the after school care program, I havent spoken with the district nurse specifically yet. I wanted to get myself informed as to our rights before I talked to her. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
