CBS daytime show The Doctors' giving false info........

Wow - looks like you guys are losing your touch

A couple days have gone by, and no response from them at all.....

I posted twice and one of them got deleted, but it looks like their strategy is just to ignore.

This thread was enough to bring me out of lurking....

I can't believe that a Dr. of any level would say such crap! I can't believe that the producers let such a dimwit talk on their show. I can't believe that no one has sent just as many emails-phone calls and complaints to Dr. Phil, he does support and sponsor the show, right?

I am new to this whole Diabetes playground, we are only 9weeks old for God's sake, and even me the mom that knew zero 9weeks ago about this knows more than some claimed man, calling himself a Dr.....well that's just sad!!!!!!

 

Well I just got a nasty reply to one of the messages I have been posting on the Doctors Site. Still no reply from anyone with any leverage - but it is comical that some of the loyal watchers are so irrate at all of us.

pamelaRN I did not see anything in there saying you have experience in Endocrinolgy. Until you do you have no idea what it is like to raise a child with Type 1 diabetes. If you had experience in Endocrinology you would know that the goal of the specialist IS to make the parents experts in the area of Type 1 diabetes. No dr adjusts our children's insulin dosages on a daily basis, they teach us to do that. If you don't believe me, head on over to http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com and post in the parents forum. I think you would be SHOCKED. Our pediatrician admits that I know more about Diabetes than she does. My daughter's pediatric rhuematologist admits that I know more about diabetes than he does. I have found, in the case of Type 1 Diabetes, experience DOES mean more than ANY medical degree not specializing in PEDIATRIC Endocrinology. I find your post rude and uneducated. When I have to take my child to the hospital it is nurse's that act like that that end up messing up my daughter's dosages and thinking they know more than I do when the truth is they have NO CLUE what it takes to take care of a child with Type 1 diabetes.



It is attitudes like this that end up causing a disservice to my child by giving the public the wrong information and the public believes them because the have MD or RN after their name!



As for no false information, are you telling me that eating too much sugar caused MY CHILD to develop Type 1 Diabetes? This is what the Dr said on the show "If you eat too much sugar you will get diabetes and have to take shots the rest of your life"

I've been looking into some freelance writing lately, and you'd be surprised (or maybe not) at how many people are paying to get posts on forums. I suspect they pay to have someone get involved with the forum enough to look like a real person, and then post with some kind of linking that gets traffic on a site selling something. But frankly I would not be shocked if people were paid to write in to forums saying how much they love X show or X product -- bandwagon advertising, and it's not illegal. I have no reason to think that "nurse" post on the Doctors forum was not a real person with a real opinion, but I suspect. . . .

 

Why doesn't someone who actually has some clout with the show actually make SOME type of statement.......instead they choose to ignore.............. Maybe a letter from ADA directly to CBS would wake them up to the fact that we aren't just blowing steam about nothing......

Oh and on the 'nurses' comments mentioned, an RN almost killed Melissa in the ER cause of her very limited knowledge of diabetes management in Children. So nothing surprises me.

 

I just thought of something. Maybe we are contacting the wrong people. Maybe we need to focus on the advertisers for the show. Money does talk!

 

No, sugar does not contribute. Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with sugar. Carbohydrates are made into sugars by the body and most foods contain carbohydrates. Do you have a child living with this disease? If you do, you should know how hard it is for them, if you don't then you have no idea what it is like for them to be constantly attacked by people that get the wrong information from the media.

 

It is idiots like you who think that this is not a problem. Un freakin real that you come here and post such an awful message. If you KNEW that sugar didn't cause diabetes, then you would also be horrified by this. MOST grown-ups accuse us parents of feeding our kids to much sugar and giving them diabetes...so how does your argument really work!

THIS SHOW WAS DANGEROUS! All I need is for my child to be having a low blood sugar and drinking a juice or eating something sweet and having it grabbed out of her hand because the person - kid or adult - heard from this Doc that sugar is bad!

I wish you would have been 'brave' enough to post a way to reach you!!!! At the very least - I hope you come back here and read this response! It is horrific that you think misleading and lieing to children is the way to educate them - and it is truly awful that you think that using my child's disease is the way to do it!

I am so unbelievably pissed off right now at your stupidity!

 

1) I do not EVER want to instill in my child a fear of food...because that's unhealthy¨... respect and knowledge about food is key.
2) Type 1 diabetes has NOTHING to do with being overweight...READ, INFORM YOURSELF
3) my child (as many of the ones on board) are not overweight...and when he was diagnosed with TYPE 1 DIABETES he was EXTREMELY UNDERWEIGHT!!!
4) no, "sugar is not a requirement to live"...but CARBS are, as are protein and lipids. Guess what CARBS have???? Take a wild guess....I'm waiting..................just for the fun, I'm going to let you look that up.


If you chose to read up on TYPE 1 DIABETES, then I, as most of the people on here, would gladly have a civilized and intelligent discussion with you.

 

I think it is best that we just ignore this person's comment. The more we comment on them, the more fuel we're adding to the fire. Let's just ignore it and hopefully Jeff can delete it.............
