We are going to a Bday party this morning. Does anyone ever just make a guess if you have no idea? I am thinking 20 carbs in one cupcake.

    Thanks!

If you have a scale that just gives you the weight, we take the weight and multiply it by .60 and that is the amount of carbs.
Example if you weigh the cupcake and it's 74g multiply that by .60= 44.4 carbs

for store bought - they sometimes have the carb count on the package. If not I use about 48 for store bought and a little less for homemade as they tend to have less icing. ;)

According to my 'Exchange Lists for Meal Planning' from the ADA......

    cupcake, frosted....1 small ( about 2 oz.)...2 carb exchanges, 1 fat

(1 carb exchange equals 15 grams of carbs, or 1 starch, 1 fruit or 1 milk)

They gave us this book in the ICU and I consult it for just about everything. I love it!!

IF they are homemade, the box makes "24" and they are about 18g each
If you use the icing like prescribed, it would take two tubs to ice 24. If that's the case, its about 27 per cupcake. If you have a thinner spread, its about 16 per cupcake.

Basically for a "loaded icing" one, I use 45
For a thin iced one, I use 35

    Works pretty well for us

It's the icing that always throws me off.
Have you seen the fluffy, foamy icing on some cupcakes?
What is that and how many carbs is that???

I usually bolus for between 25-30 carbs based on how much icing there is.

I think you posted this once before and it has taken the stress completely out of birthdays for us. Thanks! A carb factor of .6 works for us every time.
