Have you been in a hot tub recently? A friend developed a fungal skin infection from her own hot tub, it did not affect anyone else in her family. It spread all over her body, was a bumpy, itchy rash that began to peel after a couple of weeks. She got quite sick.

My younger son had a rash a couple years ago that started on his trunk I think and spread all over his body. It itched like crazy!! Night was the worst.

They sent a sample of his skin off and tested for all kinds of scary sounding stuff. Everything was negative. They just told me they thought it was a rash from a virus. He had a virus a few weeks before. He was well at time of the rash.

Is it possible you could have bedbugs? I've never had them, but I saw a lot of photos of rashes when we thought we had them this summer.

Is it a big, solid rash or a bunch of dots?

I hope he prescribed a good strong dose of steroids, oral not cream. We found the cream didn't do much when Campbell had a nasty rash. Prednisone and allegra finally seemed to beat it back. He was literally scratching in his sleep, it was so bad. :( The doc also prescribed a second antihistamine to take at night to help him sleep. I hate what prednisone does to his bgl, but it was absolutely necessary to get rid of the rash.

I hope it eases for you soon. If not, go back to that doc and demand something stronger.

My son had something that sounds like what you are describing and it was eczema . It felt like sandpaper and was extremely itchy. The Dr. we went to gave him Prednisone and it did go away but came back worse after the meds. Might be something to look into. Good luck.

Years ago my hubby developed a rash to the shampoo we had used for a couple of years. His doc told him you can become allergic to anything at anytime even stuff you have used all your life. He also said it could be something in the air. So we stopped using things one at a time first was detergent second body soap then the shampoo and it went away.

My best bet would be shingles because while I've heard it is usually excruciating I think it can, rarely, show with no pain. I've also known a few people with doctors that missed the diagnosis until it got really bad, so although you'd think it was common enough and clear enough a doctor would know, that's not necessarily the case (sound familiar?)

If you have bought any new clothing or bedding lately, I'd look into bedbugs. I understand a lot of the fancier clothing stores have huge problems in NY, etc. and if those clothes get shipped out. . . but I'd think it would be a less regular pattern.

    Anyone else showing any symptoms?

If the derm really thought it was allergies he should have referred you to an allergist. I'd go anyway, either to figure it out or to prove the dermatologist wrong and get him paying attention again.

I swear, I think every field has a fallback diagnosis and when they can't figure it out they just go there.

Yes, yes, it looks exactly like the second pic and is everywhere -even on my scalp.

I thought about bedbugs but I've looked for signs of them and don't see anything at all. No splenda, no hottub - gosh, I didn't realize I'm so boring!

If you haven't already, I'd try a different detergent. The "Free and Clear" detergents don't have perfumes or dyes, but that doesn't mean that they don't have other ingredients that your skin might react to.

Charlie's Soap is known for being very gentle, and people often use it for babies with extremely sensitive skin. I'd give it a go and see what happens.

It can't remember exactly but it took several weeks to go away. It was strange because it seemed to spread out the arms and legs and went away when it reached the hands , legs. You can see in the first pic that he also has a red rash on top of his right hand. He even started to get them on his palm. Very itchy. I will say that they send off for many tests but they only thing it came back was a technical term that he was having a allergic reaction in the skin. They said it could be caused by a virus though. Anything that touched his skin seemed to make it worse. Like where his insulin pump sites where it would make a little bump right where the cannula went in. Same for the CGM sensor. One doctor said he would have to go off the pump! My endo said no way we can work around this. Since we moved it every three days it was okay. It also happened after we got the live Christmas tree. I thought maybe he was having a allergic reaction to it. But, I guess it was just viral. Awful! I feel your pain. I found a German cream called Penaten creme that seemed to make the itching less.

That's exactly what's happening. It started around my middle and then spread both directions up and down. Now is starting to go down my legs and arms. I'm absolutely miserable. It's apparently NOT contact dermatitis that is coming from any clothing or detergent. It's either something I injested (nothing new) that I have suddenly become allergic to or it's a virus.

I agree. I would not mess around with this. I would want the advice of a specialist too. What do non-specialists know? Think diabetes.

This is what I had last year...It wasn't fun, it wasn't pretty, it did last a long time, but it wasn't too intense. If she has this hers may be worse:( It's a;sp called the Christmas tree rash.

Not to get too personal so don't feel the need to respond to this with yes or a no :D BUT I knew someone who recently had Mirena put in and developed a full body itchy rash about a week later. It did not respond to sterioids or topical creams and took about another week to determine it was that. It was sensitivity to the hormone.
