Diabetes kept me awake until 1 a.m. the other morning, but for once, it wasn't blood sugars. I'd ordered Shadow Child by Randall Stark Beach and couldn't put it down. It's his story of "life as a sibling to chronic disease." I cried through much of it, having lived it myself.

If you have other children besides your CWD, I highly recommend this book to learn ways to help and support them. There's not much out about how diabetes affects the siblings, but in my opinion, the author nails it beautifully: the fear, the high responsibility, the growing up faster than peers, the feelings of neglect and jealousy, the effects on relationships.
