Hi, this is my first time on here. My son Drew (15)was diagnosed about 7weeks ago. He is on Medicaid at the moment but not sure how long we will qualify. Someone told me that I may be able to get him on a state program that would approbe him for medical for life. (kind of like disability I guess). We are in Texas. Does anyone have a clue?
    THANKS!

Insurance laws vary by state, so I can't speak to Texas. I would ask your son's medical team for advice.

Look into high risk pools for insurance through your state, also, for the future. No income qualifications, if Texas has one.

Not sure about Texas, we are in Nebraska and my D child qualifies for a medicaid waiver type program that only covers D related issues. There is an income limit but it is pretty high.

I live in Texas and not ever heard of any such program. This would be a very unlikely state to offer such a benefit. Social programs are not high on the agenda of our legislators.

While Texas might not have what you are talking about, it does have a program for Children with special health needs. Look into applying for that! It is a big help and covers all costs associated with D.
