In amongst all the sadness, we did get some good news.

Sam (our oldest) applied for a spot at Nanocamp in January. It is a week of science for budding scientists at one of our major universities. You have to be invited to apply and it involves working with top NZ researchers. All expenses are paid including travel from anywhere in NZ.

Out of approximately 300 students, only the top 20 or so are chosen, and Sam was one of them!! Apparently he had one of the best applications!:)

We are so proud of him and it bought a smile to our faces at a time of great sadness.

And don't bother asking me what Nanotechnology is or what they will be doing. I looked at the website and they lost me at the first sentence!

Thanks guys. We now suspect he may have been swapped at birth!!:D
We are at a complete loss as to where he gets the scientific brains from cause it certainly aint from either of us!!

Umm, yes! That is our long term plan! :D
He wants to be a Chemist specialising in organics  Apparently it is all based around carbon:confused: It means he will be able to work in the oil industry, space industry and all sorts of things.

As long as he is happy..... the NanoCamp is to open his eyes to other science possibilities....

Wonderful. I am sure your child was not swapped at birth but just got what he needed from you both at birth and in his raising. I really believe that the world needs and should value people with a huge variety of talents. This child has one type (of talent) and I who love raising kids has another type. All are wonderful but all should be celebrated. So again Congrats to him and to his folks who support him. Hope he has fun at camp and it is an honor! :)Ali
