In amongst all the sadness, we did get some good news. Sam (our oldest) applied for a spot at Nanocamp in January. It is a week of science for budding scientists at one of our major universities. You have to be invited to apply and it involves working with top NZ researchers. All expenses are paid including travel from anywhere in NZ. Out of approximately 300 students, only the top 20 or so are chosen, and Sam was one of them!! Apparently he had one of the best applications! We are so proud of him and it bought a smile to our faces at a time of great sadness. And don't bother asking me what Nanotechnology is or what they will be doing. I looked at the website and they lost me at the first sentence!
