There might be a slight chance that I may have to move to Dutchess.

    Anyone from that area?

Do you have a school with a great nurse?

What endo do you use? Do you have to go to NYC?

Right now, I'm looking at Pawling, but I really have no clue.

    Thanks for any help!

The most important is a wonderful school nurse, like the one I have now:(:(:(

I was born and raised in Pawling!
I'm in college now in Poughkeepsie NY, but I attended Pawling Central School District. I was diagnosed at fifteen, so I really only have experience with the high school nurse...she's is really nice, and will help out if you ever needed anything. I did all my own care, and only went to the nurse's office for my before lunch check.
I know the middle school and elementary nurses as well, though I never dealt with diabetes care with them. They are both full time and, from what I have seen, are really good nurses. There is a least one student with diabetes in both the elementary and middle schools. Pawling is a relatively small school district, but I would recommend it. The teachers are really good as well, in general, and with understanding diabetes care.
If you have any questions, feel free to pm me... I am surprised to have heard my town by name on this forum, I always think of how small my town seems to be! lol.
I still go to home to visit often, since I'm only about 35 minutes away. Good luck if you have to move! :)
Oh, and I forgot to add, I use Dr. Wenick, who is a pediatric endocrinologist about 10-15 min away. His office is a little disorganized, but I like him as my endo. Someone else I know does go to the city, but there is also a endo in Westchester at the children's hospital, which is about 45 min away.

I am Samantha's mother...she called me from college to tell me to check the forum!!
When she was diagnosed, she was in Westchester Medical Center, which is about 45 minutes from Pawling. There are endos there..but my insurance didn't cover them..if fact there was only ONE peds endo my insurance covers!!
We see Dr Gary Wenick..he is a pediatrician and an endo, I actually switched so he is Sams endo and pediatrician..he will see people up to 25. He is in Brewster, about 10 to 15 minutes from Pawling. We love him. He has a nurse trained in diabetes but no other services to offer.
My friends son was dx at 10..as far as I know she has been happy with the school nurses.
If you do come to Pawling..let us know!!

Hi there. I live in Danbury, CT which is not far from Pawling. Caleb's endo is in Danbury and they are Pediatric Specialists and very current with technology, conduct support groups, etc. Caleb's CDE is JoAnn Ahern 203-790-5437.

Caleb's pediatrician is also an endo and sees patients exclusively for their D care. Caleb doesn't - I like having the two perspectives, since I can, but I absolutely love this doctor and think we would be a great primary endo. He is very convenient to Pawling. He is in Brewster, New York:

He is very knowledgeable and kind.

    Good luck!

Oh duh - I'm just rereading the above posts. I saw "Westchester Medical" and moved on and didn't see he was already mentioned. My mistake.

Yay for Dr. Wenick! I love the nurses and the staff there too. So nice. :) Glad to know other fans!
