I have an 11 year old with type 1 and he is very active. He currently plays on a travel ball baseball team and this past weekend we spent both day's at the ball park. Does anyone have any low carb snack ideas or maybe recommend some kind of protien bar. It's tough because in between games he will eat his lunch get his insulin and then have to watch all his teamates eat fruit and power bars through out the day to keep their energy levels up and this past Sunday we were there from 9 in the morning until 8 at night. This is also become a problem at home because at the age of 11 his appeitite has grown and I want to have more snacks on hand that he can eat without sending his sugar levels through the roof.
He might could use the fruit, gatorade or Power Bar snack, to keep his blood sugar from going low. Sometimes a person with type 1 tends to go low with active sports and excitement. For low/no carb snacks some like mozzarella sticks and beef jerky and slim jims, nuts and popcorn. Some kids like sugar free jello.
