Anyone know roughly how much a broker might cost?

We purchase our insurance privately using a broker. The insurance companies each pay them, as opposed to us.

If they do their job right you save on premiums and it cost you nothing. If they don't do their job right then you buy from someone else. In a sense obamacare is acting like a broker except that it will have whatever agenda the ruling political party has in mind at the time. Hence the saying to never make a law that you would not want your worst enemy to administer. Insurance companies have agendas too but the role of the government is to be there as a third party to prosecute fraud, etc.
