BELLINGHAM - A March 14 fundraiser at the Acupuncture Health Center in Bellingham will raise money for type 1 diabetes research led by Dr. Denise Faustman at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Participants will get a one-hour acupuncture treatment for $20 during the event, which will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scott Paglia, who owns the center, is organizing the event.

He said 100 percent of the money raised will be sent to Faustman, an immunologist whose work led to the first-ever cure of type 1 diabetes in mice. Her research has expanded into human trials.

Paglia's daughter Kiara, now 4, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, 1 1/2 years ago.

Appointments are required and may be made by calling 715-1824.
