Thread: Hair Loss

  1. Default Hair Loss

I have an 11 year old son. For about three weeks he's been irritable, easily emotional, complaining of not feeling well, complaining of headaches and he is losing a large amount of hair.

I've looked at several possabilities, not fungal. He had lab tests done this morning, fasting sugar.

Has anyone else had this symptom with diabetes?

    Thanks,
    Kym

Jeff's got all the good info, but I just wanted to add that our Laura had massive amounts of hair loss prior to any other symptoms.

I have heard of others who have had hair loss prior to diagnosis, but none that has ever been permanent.

    Default hair loss

Funny you say that....when my daughter went to the Childrens Hospital and was in the ER I noticed when she got off the rolling bed, there was tons of hair left behind. I have also noticed large balls of it in the bottom of our pool. I assumed it was mine but am beginning to think it was hers! I don't know if it has any correlation to the diabetes or not, but interesting to say the least.

My 5 year old was diagnosed 10 weeks ago and I started to notice some hairs around his shoulderstwo days ago but today, I found significant hair loss after brushing his hair. I called his specialist today and I am waiting to hear back from him. I will let you know what he says. I'm so worried

Our daughter lost lots of hair after diagnosis! It was explained to us as a result of the stress on her body due to the high blood sugars. It stopped and her hair grew back, but it was upsetting! Also, she had swollen legs and ankles for a week after dx...this was due to the beginning of insulin therapy after being high for so long

My dd was DX at a very younge age, I was surprise by her hair growth after DX(13 months)' you've it some time.

Being DX is a lot on the body, and it might take some time to recover.

I lost tons of hair before and after diagnosis. It went on for a little more than two months after dx. It was awful. I also had swollen limbs after dx but the doctors were totally perplexed by both things.

I know! The fellows at the hospital thought she had a type of congestive heart failure! Common sense prevailed, though, and after searching on the internet I found information about insulin induced edema!! Sheesh!
