I think you got it right, there are three components but I think they are all produced together in the same proportions no matter what so that's not a factor. But I think there is a different aspect with DKA and the glucose messing up the feedback system. I think a lot of these sources assume you don't really want to know the reasoning behind it, just how to make it work on the ground. It is cool stuff, though. And it makes you wonder if there's some way to prevent DKA in type 1, that could be another way to refine treatment. Sorry you're frustrated, it's hard when you ask a question and best-meaning folks answer what they think you asked instead of what you did ask, I've been on both sides of that one.

Oh, I think I just heard something about that. I had a friend die earlier this year, she was amazing, but she was my source for chicklit, always found me something fun but also not something that would make me wince from the content. Amazon. . . . . oh Amazon. . . .

Thanks, I'll watch for that. She almost always has trace ketones and when she's high she has them, I don't know if that means she is not getting enough food or enough insulin or both. Guess it's the next thing to learn.

Thanks, that's about where we are but not vomitting thank goodness. I have checked for ketones a few times, it's varying, have to remember to keep that in the equation, though I'll admit I don't understand that part very well.

Did that predate me? I missed it. Just saw lots of posts you did for others having problems where you reminded to think about absorption in the illness equation. I'm happy to learn from your misery. . . .:(

Just realized from the other thread on illness and lows, I never had any clue that "absorption issues" could mess up ratios, etc. until I saw a couple references in your posts. She had I:C ratios that were nearly double her normal yesterday because of her antibiotic (I think) and I'd have been clueless and freaking out if I didn't know about this.
