Hello Everyone! My name is Monica Oxenreiter and I am 15 years old and live in Pittsburgh, PA, and I have Type 1 Diabetes. I have been involved in fundraising for diabetes for as long as I can remember. I came up with a great idea to raise money: Raise $100 in every zip code in the United States. JDRF approved my idea as a third party fundraiser, my parents formed a non-profit, and we created an awesome website that will show graphically when a zip code is "sponsored." The map of the US will start out yellow, and as each zip code is sponsored, the zip code area will turn to green. When we are finished selling this map, the entire country will be green. I think this is the first time anyone has tried a project like this. Although it may take a few months for the concept to catch on, once it does it has the potential to raise millions of dollars for research to find a cure. We have been approved by the IRS as a 501c Charity. Also, we have no paid staff and all of our proceeds will be donated to JDRF. Right now we have about twenty state captains helping me promote my project. If you would like to help as a state captain, please email me at monica@zipthecure.com. We went live on November 14, 2009, which is World Diabetes Day. Although it may take a few months for the concept to catch on, once it does it has the potential to raise millions of dollars for research to find a cure for our disease. If you would like to help, here are some ways: Mention Zip the Cure in your Blog Sponsor a zip code Tell your friends (word of mouth is our only publicity) Join our facebook group Follow us on Twitter Vote for us on Facebook Chase Community Giving I hope you will visit our website at www.zipthecure.com and see what our project is about.
