Went out to lunch today with my neighbor and one of her friends (whom I had never met). The friend was telling us her daughter was diagnosed with water diabetes. I had never heard of such a thing....she said it was something hormonal that in turn did something with her daughter's kidneys and made her VERY thirsty. WOW...I thought, is this for real?? Came home did a search and immediatley found some info for dogs and water diabetes and it was hormonal - nothing to do with insulin.... so I figure if it can happen in dogs - it probably can happen in people too..... Water Diabetes - who knew?!

You guys beat me to it. It is real, the kidneys are unable to sustain water and so there is frequent urination and thirst. I'd imagine it sucks just as much as any of the other types of Diabetes. :(

The kidneys cant retain water because of an imbalance of Anti diuretic hormone. There is not enought ADH being secreted by the pituitary gland.

Both diabetes were named after the symptom of peeing a lot.
