And Linda completes my original list that I had when I started this thread.

This is another song that I don't know how the performer gets through without breaking up.

When Eric Clapton accepted one of the Grammys for "Tears in Heaven", he said "I wrote this song to heal myself. It never occurred to me that you might like it."

Quite a few that were mentioned - especially Butterfly Kisses & Tears in Heaven but this one makes me choke up every time (especially the last part)

Where Were You Lyrics :Alan Jackson

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?
were you in the yard with you wife and your children or working on some stage in LA
did you stand there in shock at the site of that black smoke
    rising against that blue sky
did you shout out in anger in fear for your neighbor
or did you just sit down and cry

did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
and pray for the ones who don't know
did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
and sob for the ones left below
did you burst out with pride for the red white and blue
the heroes who died just doing what they do
did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
and look at yourself and what really matters

    Chorus
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
the difference in Iraq and Iran
but I know Jesus and I talk to God
and I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
    and the greatest is Love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
teaching a class full of innocent children
or driving down some cold interstate
did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
in a crowded room did you feel alone
did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
did you dust off that Bible at home
did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
close your eyes and not go to sleep
did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
speak with some stranger on the street
did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
go out and buy you a gun
did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
and turn on "I Love Lucy" re-runs
did you go to a Church and hold hands with some stranger
stand in line and give your own blood
did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
thank God you had somebody to love

    (Chorus x2)
    The greatest is Love
    The greatest is Love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

Fields of Gold, sung by Eva Cassidy (Songbird).

She had such a beautiful, powerful voice, and this album was released after her death. It's not so much the words that are moving, but the strenght of her voice and knowing she died soon after is what always gets me.

I think I can top my last Johnny Cash entry.

This song is called "Bed by the Window".

Watch the video and listen carefully to the lyrics. There's a twist at the end.

Well I have to agree with Tears in Heaven by Clapton and Hurt by Johnny Cash....I also love his version of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

Standing on the Moon by The Grateful Dead (written by Jerry Garcia)
The way Jerry sings the chorus, his voice filled with sadness and longing, gets me every time.......

    Standing on the moon
I got no cobweb on my shoe
    Standing on the moon
I'm feeling so alone and blue
I see the gulf of Mexico
    As tiny as a tear
    The coast of California
Must be somewhere over here - over here

    Standing on the moon
I see the battle rage below
    Standing on the moon
I see the soldiers come and go
There's a metal flag beside me
    Someone planted long ago
    Old Glory standing stiffly
Crimson, white and indigo - indigo

I see all of Southeast Asia
    I can see El Salvador
I hear the cries of children
And the other songs of war
    It's like a mighty melody
That rings down from the sky
    Standing here upon the moon
I watch it all roll by - all roll by

    Standing on the moon
    With nothing else to do
    A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you

    Standing on the moon
I see a shadow on the sun
    Standing on the moon
The stars go fading one by one
I hear a cry of victory
    And another of defeat
A scrap of age old lullaby
    Down some forgotten street

    Standing on the moon
Where talk is cheap and vision true
    Standing on the moon
But I would rather be with you
    Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July
    Just looking up to heaven
At this crescent in the sky

    Standing on the moon
    With nothing left to do
    A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you - be with you

    She's Somebody's Hero by Jamie O'Neal

She's never pulled anyone from a burning building
She's never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She's never hit a shot to win the game
She's never left her footprints on the moon
She's never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she's just your everyday average girl (but)

    She's somebody's hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
    The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
    Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
    She's somebody's hero

    oh oh
She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face

    She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know oh oh oh
    She's somebody's hero

Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters' starin' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
    Oh, but she already is

    She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
    She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mother with a spoon
And that smile lets her know oh oh
Her mother's smile lets her know oh oh
    She's somebody's hero

    Sarah McLachlan The song Answer
(Humane Society commercial) I cry everytime

    I will be the answer
At the end of the line
I will be there for you
    While you take the time
    In the burning of uncertainty
I will be your solid ground
    I will hold the balance
    If you can't look down

If it takes my whole life
    I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
    Worth it in the end
Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright

    Cast me gently
    Into morning
For the night has been unkind
    Take me to a
    Place so holy
That I can wash this from my mind
The memory of choosing not to fight

If it takes my whole life
    I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
    Worth it in the end
'Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all burned out
You'll still be burning so bright

    Cast me gently
    Into morning
For the night has been unkind
