At our FFL conferences, we always include a session on sick day management. Do any of you have specific suggestions that work for your family, beyond what your health care team has provided?
I would say always check ketones, even if bloodsugars are fine, when ill. My daughter found out while sick at college, that good bloodsugars do not always mean everything is fine. She was sick with a kidney infection & did not think her diabetes was an issue until I finally reminded her to check ketones. Of course this was after her telling me on the phone that she felt, "like death." After a quick check of temperature & ketones, oh yes! She found she did in fact have a fever & large ketones. Another thing to remember is the mini-glucagon dose can be very helpful when vomiting is an issue. Last summer that proved very helpful for us during a bout with stomach flu.
