Can we start a thread on what was helpful for those that have already delt w/ the flu. Whats good to have on hand, little tricks and such. With so many developing the flu its nice to have a stock of things at home so you don't need to worry about running around to the pharmacy or stores to stock up. Maybe we can make this a sticky? I'll start a list, copy and past the list into your message with your suggestions. Ketone strips Diet drinks sugar drinks popsicles tylenol cough drops Thanks Jeff!

The only other thing we have is Phenergen suppositories. For when that first bout of N/V hits, they don't have to wait a couple of hours for relief. Oh and germX, and then those Lysol cleaning sheet things (not sure what they are called) great for doorknobs and lightswitches. I tend to follow the sick around and disenfect whatever they touch.

I don't know if any of you have tried this, but we use it often. We put the liquid Vicks in our vaporizers at night.
Along with everything else listed here, we keep little candycanes in the house. The peppermint is soothing to upset tummies, and it's a good way to work gradually on raising a stubborn low BG if you need to get it up to dose insulin for ketones.

ketone strips are good but i also like to have the percision xtra blood ketone meter and strips on hand ...for those who may not know what this is it test blood ketones and gives you the "now" vs. urine strips that show a few hours ago the levels of ketones
Actually, I'm pretty sure that people are just calling the blood ketone strips "ketone strips" - they mean just exactly what you are talking about. The urine sticks, most folks call ketostix And most folks who have issues or histories of kids spilling ketones use the strips, not the stix.
We swear by Pediacare Gentle Vapors Nightlight. This helps the kids breathe through the night when they're stuffy.
