    It might be interesting to see what the BG is one hour after eating. It certainly doesn't hurt anything.

    That is good he is in range a couple of hours later.

    You aren't reducing the basal by all that much. I would have tried prebolusing and more insulin at the meal before a semi-super bolus. Again, it doesn't hurt to try the simpliest thing first.
