Just starting to use dual wave past few months and need some suggestions. Went to "bertucci's" for dinner (first mistake) anyways, DD had 1 roll and was 83 before dinner. We corrected and gave insulin for the roll. For dinner she had 6 oz regular pasta and then a hoodsie. So we gave her an additional 60gm carbs using dual wave 60/40% over 3hr. now At ~3 hr after starting the dual wave she is 358. Our MD told us to check at 3hr after dual started and 5 hr. With the 3 hr number being so high I'm confused what needs to be tweaked. The amt of carbs, the % or the time? anyne have an experience/suggestions? Colleen
I would only suggest more on the back end of the dual wave.. pasta is slow digesting... it is just try, try again. Next time try 40% upfront and 60% on the back for 3.5 hours.. good luck!
My son uses the dual wave for pasta...... He uses the bolus wizard and uses what it suggests but does a 2 hour duration. YDMV so you will just need to try different things.
We just do a square wave as we had no luck with a dual wave. Much better numbers with the square wave. We do it over 3 hours.
as everyone already stated YDMV. It is truly trial and error. Whenever we eat pasta outside of home, we found that 50/50 bolus for 2 hr duration works for us most of the time. We try to avoid pasta in restaurants though because using the same combo bolus, we can get very different results depending on the restaurant. We are okay with mac 'n cheese in restaurants, haven't found much variability there. Good luck!
