Today, November 5, 2009, marks a decade since my diagnosis.
    A decade of finger pricks.
    A decade of injections.
A decade of highs and lows.
A decade of being educated/educating others.
    A decade of experience.
A decade of not knowing what my next number will be.
Today marks a day that I will never forget, the day I started living my new "normal." Today I am greatful: Greatful for support, greatful for insulin, greatful for education, and greatful for life.
Today, I am a junior in college, working on my BA in criminal justice. I'm 21, work a full time job, have my own apartment, and my own car. Diabetes has not held me back on anything except for getting insurance coverage, but hopefully, I will one day have a job that will cover me.
To all the parents, thanks for the support you give us diabetic kids and adults. Thanks for caring and doing all that you do. To all the kids, never let diabetes hold you back, you can do anything you put your mind to.

I am humbled by your ability to be grateful in spite of your diagnosis.

You are a great role model for kids with T1D!

Cassie, I commend you on your positive attitude. Live your life, don't let diabetes live it for you. Hope all your dreams come true. Maybe by the time the next 10 years comes along diabetes will be a thing of the past.

    Cassie - you go girl!!!

I am glad that you are sticking with school. What a testimony to pushing forward - working, going to school, dealing with D management and having a positive, up-beat attitude.

Keep it up. You are an encouragement to all of us who know you are forging a trail that our kids will one day travel.

We just had 10 years with Morgan ( our soon to be 15 year old). It was a bittersweet day. This week she's really struggling and it has been sad here. I hope when she's in college she has a different tune....more like yours!
