Today, November 5, 2009, marks a decade since my diagnosis. A decade of finger pricks. A decade of injections. A decade of highs and lows. A decade of being educated/educating others. A decade of experience. A decade of not knowing what my next number will be. Today marks a day that I will never forget, the day I started living my new "normal." Today I am greatful: Greatful for support, greatful for insulin, greatful for education, and greatful for life. Today, I am a junior in college, working on my BA in criminal justice. I'm 21, work a full time job, have my own apartment, and my own car. Diabetes has not held me back on anything except for getting insurance coverage, but hopefully, I will one day have a job that will cover me. To all the parents, thanks for the support you give us diabetic kids and adults. Thanks for caring and doing all that you do. To all the kids, never let diabetes hold you back, you can do anything you put your mind to.
