Weak signal -> restart problem? Change missed data alarm setting
I met with our MM rep and the regional sensor specialist about this problem. I'll post more later, but wanted to get this tip out:
Change the Missed Data setting to less than 30 minutes. (This the last item in the Sensor Setup menu.) This way at least you get an alarm about the Weak Sensor and know to watch for a possible auto restart. If it does restart, you will be in the 2 hour warm up period, meaning no data and no alarms. (You know you are in the warm up period if you see no # on the screen and the next meter BG is scheduled out for 2 hours.)
Our Missed Data setting was at 40 minutes to avoid nuisance alarms for all the times when there is simply a weak sensor message that resolves itself appropriately. I think I set that for when my son was at his 30 minute swimming lessons ... trying to avoid the Lost Sensor message. Typical setting for many is 30 minutes. The problem is that when there is a auto restart, it will often happen after 5 or 6 weak signal messages (you can see this in the data table). So the system restarts BEFORE an alarm can be triggered. This is why we were never getting any alarm to alert us.
For me, the auto restart has been a nuisance, but it is the not knowing about it that is the real danger. So this is a short-term but very important solution to the problem.
I changed the Missed Data time to 15 minutes and the next day there was an alarm for the Weak Sensor and 10-15 minutes later an auto restart, which I was on alert for. I pulled the sensor and need to call MM helpline on it. (I forgot to save the sensor though so I could send it back to them for analysis.)
