Default "Hi mom..I'm over 300+" at school call...

Just had to run up to DD's school to do a site change. I knew it wasn't going to be a good morning when I checked her before breakfast at she was a 199! She NEVER wakes up that high. I thought something was up when she woke up a 160+ on Sunday, but decided not to muck with the basal rates until I could tell it was a pattern. Guess it is a pattern and it is time to bump the basal.

I think the site was fine and the insulin was good, because by the time I got to school she was down to a 217...still did a site/cartridge change to be sure...no ketones either. Never a dull moment in diabetes la la land!

LOL I guess I have my mama pancreas blinders on! I knew this girl of mine must be in a strong honeymoon. Predictability, pre-tween hormones, and diabetes just don't mix!!

No worries at all! I still pine for the days, just prior to DD pumping, where her TDD was 3.5 units! Do me a favor though...please remind how pretty a 199 looked when I'm riding the crazy roller coaster of puberty bg #s!!!

She must have a REALLY great a1c!!!

I probably shouldn't admit this here, but yesterday DS called me 2 hrs before he would get home from school, saying he had .3 units left. I just told him not to eat anything and we'd change his site when he got home. I figured, with his basal rate, he'd be fine, because I think it keeps pumping basal even when it says --.-- in the status screen. Don't ask how I know that.

So before you rip on my choice, a) I would've definitely gone in if it were before lunch, and b) he was 87 when he got home, so all was well.

What I'm saying is, there are worse things than not changing a basal rate when you think it might need to be changed.

Based on DD's TDD, age, and the fact her numbers are relatively in range I think it's safe to assume she is still in a strong honeymoon. Her A1C is good, but I'm sure it won't be like that always.

Glad it worked out with your son's pump. We all make the calls we feel are best...it's not fair to judge how someone manages their child's d. D situations are relative to each child and parent. No one can be perfect at this pancreas job.
