First of all none of us are perfect.. We make mistakes.. YESTERDAY was my big doozy of a mistake.... BIG BIG BIG mistake.
Yesterday i was having a doozy of a bad mood day... MID day delight with my secret santa gift. then followed by a whirl wind of rushing out the door so we are not late for our starlight foundations zoo lights and santa evening. I am also part of a local support group here in phonix that me and a few other moms ( also from cwd) helped create. Some of the families from our support group also was at the starlight event. Well right as we are going out the door, I remembered charlize nurse telling me her pump was low while at school. its now 4:30.. I looked 4 units of insulin.. that is not going to work for a night that is sure to be filled with cookies, candies and hot chocholate... SO i removed her pump. replaced the cartridge really quickly, started to load it and go thru the motions,... I place it on the table for a few minutes OH, I had to run in the other room to grab something else. I grab every thing together and run out the door... 1 hour later we are standing at our zoo talking with friends, Charlize comes up to me with a look of pure terror and sadness. I ask what is wrong.. AND she shows me her empty pump pouch.. YUP I DID the most worse thing and forgot to fishing putting on her pump. IT was sill laying on my kitchen table... Im not sure what to do.. BUT i have at least 3-4 families that i know all with pumps and insulin.. AND Zanesmommy saved the day. She gave me insulin and shots so we could get thru the night.. Charlize was already 458 at this moment.. So for correcting for that and dinner and only 1 missed basal 10 units of insulin... 1. I am so thankful to have such great friends that made sure my kids did not miss out on a fantastic experiance. That will be by far one of my favorite gifts of all time, thank you Tracy. 2. I will take this moment and alway remember it as charlize grows up and makes mistakes.. THey happen. I will remember not to yell or get mad at her. I have made minor mistakes befor, but this one by far takes the cake.

what a nice story .
I think it helps for newbies to hear that even after almost 5 years you can still make mistakes...and they're really ok!!! (and it's proof positive of the power of the CWD!)

I have not yet done that one myself. But I have heard of it happening to others and it's a fear of mine. Lia gets frustrated as we'll get in the car to go somewhere or she's going to bed and I'll ask if her pump is on.
You just never know.... I'm glad it turned out alright!

Someone with some initiative really needs to go through the forums and create a collection of inspirational stories like this entitled "Did You Goof? An Introduction to Type 1 Diabetes"

No offense meant. My hubby would not even be able to think of a solution to that problem. If it was our child, I guarantee you, he would turn around and go home with child in the 400s before he would ask someone else if they have syringes and insulin.

That was the first thing that came to mind. "Excuse me! Anyone 'got insulin'!?" Diabetes is getting so widespread I would be surprised if there wasn't someone in the crowd packin.
