Default Rename Type 1 Diabetes

Time to brainstorm, then run a poll for a the new name of T1D.

1. Nicolae Syndrome - Romanian scientist that first isolated insulin in 1916
2. Banting Disorder - Canadian scientist credited for the discovery of insulin in 1921
3. Lancesism
4. Buminstickers Syndrome
5. Lacktus Insulinis

.... couldn't resist 3-5

I seriously went around the internet looking for a word that meant empty or nothing (to use w/the word insulin) and finally switched to looking for a synonym of reduction, and I thought of the following name:

Autoimmune Beta Cell Degeneration - ABCD

Does anyone know if it has ever been petitioned to change the name? And who would change it? ADA?

ROTFLMFAO!

Honestly, I think its a waste of time and energy changing the name. People are confused enough between type 1, type 2 and JD, as it is. Throwing another name into the mix would just muddy the already murky waters. Simply educating people is the answer.

My BIL said after Addison was diagnosed that we shouldn't call it Diabetes anymore, we should call it Livabetes. So that's what we call it in our house.

You have to remember that actually we do have a large part of our pancreases working and in fact, autoimmune pancreas disease generally refers to pancreatitis. TOTALLY different disease.

I think insulin dependent diabetes works for me.
