Default Question about blood sugar of babies

When Kylee was first diagnosed(at 10) we were told to keep her between 100and 200 and as she gets older, the numbers get lower and the range is smaller. I know heart rate and respirations in babies and children are higher than in adults, are normal blood sugar ranges also higher?

Kaylee wasn't a baby when diagnosed, she was 2, when she was first diagnosed they wanted her around 200.. as she's gotten older we've dropped it (I've dropped it faster than the endo would have liked.. but I've only dropped it because of the cgms.). Her endo explained that they need the sugar for brain developement, so they run the little ones higher, they also can't communicate lows, so its safer to run them higher.

Shortly after birth normal blood sugars are the same as anyone else...

However, if a baby has D, I'm sure they range they would want them in would be higher...Seth was dx'd at 7. His range was 80 to 150 and he was supposd to be over 100 at bedtime. Te bottom of that range has dropped to 70 at this point.

E was diagnosed at 8 and her range was 80 to 150 when on MDI. On pump 80 to 120; shortly thereafter, 80 to 100. I'm not sure when she dropped the range from 70 to 100. By "range" you are not talking about postprandials? In that case, she wanted 180 two hours after eating and now wants 150. We still can't meet the postprandial targets a lot of the time. Not sure about running a baby at 200, would probably go by my own baby's experience. I would probably try to keep that toward 150 but safety is the most important thing so would have to observe in my own instance.

when Tony was diagnosed at 20 months old, we kept him between 100 and 200, he couldn't communicate that he was low until this last year. He'd also act fine and now show any signs when he was 30. Now it's 80-180.

At dx they wanted us at 180 but I have reduced her to 135 during the day and left her at 180 for the night. Its kinda tricky because of all the variables with little ones. 135 is never 135 and she can drop fast so this is the number we are comfortable correcting to.

Leland was dxd at 15 months and since then the endo has said 70-150 during the day and above 100 before bed was good for him. He is hardly ever consistanly in that range but usualy close to it and has only recently had some lows.

Rohan was dx'd at 7 months old, our range has been 80-200 from the beginning. We correct to 150, but during the day I try to correct to 130.

In the night endo wants him to be over 110 and that's where we feel comfortable too, because there are some nights when even basal of 0.025 drops him more than 30 points.

That's what our endo gave us for a range too. I don't think that a kid without diabetes would be that high, but it's safer than having a toddler who can't tell you they're low. We correct Christopher over 150 during the day, and over 200 at night.
