When I picked up Morgan's new script for his levothroid it is now written for levothyroxine. The dr. changed it to this, but is it any different from levothroid. The pharmacist told me they (including synthroid) are all basically the same. Do any of you think there is a difference between these two?

I was told that it is a big deal (if I understood correctly)
One is the name brand and the other is generic. My Endo's office called the pharmacy to make sure the pharmacy was getting the same generic brand from the same manufacturer. I guess that can really screw things up if it isn't. I've read on the forums that others stay with the the name brand for that reason.

Well, I do know the endo changed it, not the pharmacy.

I have heard from a few drs that any medication which is a synthetic hormone derivitive such as synthroid that there is a difference between brand name and generic. it depends on the dr.
I had a dr who put me on the generic and I just switched and the person I see now said that with all I have going on (messed up hormones due to breastfeeding) that it is imperative that I get the proper thyroid dose. Like I said, my hormones are way out of whack, but my thyroid has bounced around like crazy this past year TSH varying from 3--25 ![]() Not sure if it will stabilize now that I'm on the brand name or not.

Our endo changed it too to help save money and to see how DS reacted. It did not go so well - of course puberty and a lot of other factors were involved so then the endo made a note in his file and at the pharmacy to ALWAYS use the name brand.
Didn't need another unknown thrown in there.
