Default Would you be ok with this for your kids?

We're finally having Brendan's b-day party tomorrow -- he kept getting sick, so we put it off almost a month. He has strep now, but he's on antibiotics and the pedi said he's not contagious -- so, we're going ahead.

Anyway...I have a friend who is a pastry chef and she makes these black forest cupcakes that are supposed to be yummy. The cherry filing has kirsch in it -- a liqueur. I was going to cut back from the real amount, if I do this. Each cupcake will only have a few teaspoons of filling and so it'll be a fraction of a teaspoon of liquor. It's just not supposed to taste the same without the kirsch. It's not enough to get the kids tipsy or anything -- just a flavoring. Would you guys be ok with your kids eating that?

I'd be fine with it, besides doesn't the alcohol content "dissolve" when you cook it? Sounds yummy!!
Happy birthday!!

No cooking, so it doesn't evaporate. You add the filling after the cupcakes are cooked, so it stays put.

Could you heat the Kirsch alone and cook the alcohol out of it and then let it cool before adding it so no one would have an issue with it?

That would ruin the flavor. If there's an issue, I'll make something else. I don't think our friends would care -- but you never know about things like this. I've emailed a couple of the mothers and I'm waiting to hear back.

I would be fine with it. I use a little Kirsch in fondue, and my kids are just fine. I would think of it like Vanilla extract in this case (which also has lcohol), just a flavoring.

What a lucky kid to have a pastry chef making his birthday treats! Have a fun party!

She's not making it -- just her recipe. I'll probably totally hose it. She lives in Scotland, or I would hire her to make them. Her stuff tastes so good and is beautiful to look at too.

I may cut back on the amount of kirsch. It's 1/4 cup for 24 cupcakes, so I'll use a little less.

I wouldn't have a problem with it but I wouldn't tell the kids what's in it or they'd all be bragging that they got to have alcohol at the party.
