Default Possible first sleep over - Do I let him go?

I thought I had seen this topic before. I searched the threads but gave up.
My son is 11, diabetic for 7 seven years. He is on the pump and sometimes CGM. I always check him in the middle of the night at least once. With the CGM I may have had a couple of nights the alarms didn't go off. The last two nights for example I had to give glucose tablets twice. His low alarm went off. The night before that he was having fake low alarms by laying on the sensor. The sleep over party is Christmas Eve. The mom is a nurse but we know that doesn't mean they know what to do with diabetes. Do I let him go and make someone check him once and call me? I know with the activity he may need to be checked twice?? I hate diabetes!

When my son sleeps over, I have him test/call me at his usual bedtime, and then test/call again before going to sleep (which is usually at least an hour or two later). I usually let him run a little high rather than worrying about him going low. I know it is hard to do, but with the cgm it should be a bit easier to see if his numbers are going up or down, right?

Yes, let him go. If you would let him go if he were NON diabetic, then you should let him go. Give him a phone, and go to bed early yourself... that is what I did this year when I let Nolan go. I never regretted it.

Oh, I forgot to mention . He has severe peanut allergies on top of this. He also has allergies to soy and other foods but not as severe.
Just curious, for the parents that say let him go do you have to treat lows in the middle of the night at home?

Yes, we often treat middle of the night lows - that is why I have him run a bit higher than usual before he goes to sleep.

we often have to treat lows at night, at the same time, we also know that we let him run a bit higher than we would at home for a sleepover.

If there is a parent who is checking him in the middle of the night, I tell them to call me if they have any questions, at any time.

Otherwise, Sam has to call before he goes to sleep, once again, no matter what time.

I still want him to experience sleepovers, so I don't get upset if he calls late.

I would let him go! When Tyler is going to a friends to sleep over, I have him call me before he goes to bed with his bg, I also have him run a bit higher over night (when I asked his cde about sleepovers, she said there is more long term bad effects from keeping them from doing things like sleepovers, than to run a bit high for one night every now and again - I believe she meant that he will have a healthy attitude towards his diabetes, if we allow him to do regular kid stuff) Then he calls me again in the morning when he wakes up.

I treat lows often at night with Tyler which is why I have him run on the higher side with a sleepover.

Well, I don't know about boy sleepovers, but the girls hardly sleep. So it really hasn't been a problem for us. I do find that she tests more at a sleepover then while home. I think she's afraid we'll take away the privilege if she doesn't. Plus they seem to eat all night, so she runs a little higher anyhow.

I'd let him go. Especially if the mom is a nurse. While I agree they don't really understand it unless they live it, she'll at least know how to test him (if they do sleep) and what to do if there were an emergency. Plus you deserve a night off!!

As long as the parents are well aware of all the allergies, and willing to call you if needed, I don't see a problem. Maybe you could take your son and buy some snacks for him to take that are safe, and set his basal lower. One night of running higher won't hurt.

Okay, one last question. When you say run him higher. How high do you mean?
