Are Rebounds from a low easyer or harder to correct??
After a site change after a bath and after xmas surprises my daughter said she was low and tested at 45. Treated with juice, but she was sill not feeling well and said she wanted something to eat, a 10g carb popcorn cake and turkey was eaten. I know that it was too many carbs but she promptly fell asleep and at 30 minute she was at 72 and at an hour she was at 178. She had a little IOB but this low of a low was unexpected, I was guessing that we got a "good Spot" for absorption and only at 178 an hour after I let it go and decided to test at 2 hours. 2Hours she was at 324 gave a 1/2 correction and 2hr later she was at 294 gave a 75% correction and 2 hrs later she was at 290. WTH. I know I was not giving full corrections but come on some improvment in BG!! gave another 1/2 correction and finally broke her out of it and back to 120's til a late brakfast. then ran higher in the am then to the lower in the afternoon. I thought about it this morning and wondered if her liver was spitting out glucose from the low as I was tring to correct? Becuase usually correction work well in the night even if she is that high.

We had someting similar this week too and my experience is that the rebounds are harder to correct.
Heather CA mentioned that you shouldn't correct too aggressively. I did one fill correction before reading her post and it did nothing, a bit later, I did a half correction and it did the trick. I believe that you need to let the liver recover. I think we had another low and he didn't rebound from it. He woke up and felt low and just treated it. It was Christmas morning and he didn't want to get in trouble for leaving his room.

After a low the body has put out various hormones to bring up BG and to protect itself from going low again. The result is that it is very hard to bring down BG right after a low if you've overtreated or if there's been a string rebound. It becomes easier a few hours afterwards..

What I generally do if I suspect a high number is a rebound is give it a little time. I wait and hour or even two and then correct that number. Oftentimes after giving it time his blood sugar has gone down quite a bit. Corrections usually do the trick the first time that way.

So if you suspect that it is a rebound wait a little while and retest and then correct because the body is still reacting to the low. That sounds like a plan, let just see if I remember that late at night.
