Post British Diabetic Association / Diabetes UK

This may be of interest to you if you are Members of Diabetes UK.
Have a look at: www.support.diabetes-insight.info
Follow the Links: 'General Support' and then 'BDA to make Diabetics Homeless'
Does anybody know anything about this?

What are the facts of the original case?

How serious was the 'passing off'?

Post Response to jlwilts

I am a Diabetes UK member and I am fully aware of this as it has spread across many diabetic forums.

From what I've read the passing off was a major case during the 90s. I understand that the BDA took two people who set up a company called the Diabetic Society to court because they wanted ownership of that name. The BDA were successful but afterwards were very badly criticised for the amount of money they had spent during the passing-off. I believe they spent approximately half a million pounds of charity money and since that time interest has accumulated making the judgment debt now three quarters of a million pounds. My understanding is that the BDA have now started legal proceedings to get their costs but Diabetes UK have not yet offered any comment.

Smile British Diabetic Association - Sir Michael Hirst

Roshan - Will the British Diabetic Association still be using the Witness Statement of Sir Michael William Hirst as he is no longer the Chairman of the Board of Trustees?

Does anybody know what the 'past indiscretion?' is?
PM me please.

Question Extreme Legal Fees

Can anyone expand upon the reasons as to why the Diabetes Foundation spent so much more in relation to their legal costs than what the claim was actually worth?

It's very well posting brief pieces of information on the internet but it is difficult to understand if so much more information is omitted.

Thank you

An article about this topic was published in the Croydon Advertiser newspaper last week. The article can also be seen on the internet

The headline was 'family could lose their home after court battle with charity'
