Default How long was your child's honeymoon?

My DD's bg #s are so all over the place. I find myself wondering if I counted carbs wrong, or if maybe she's already coming out of the honeymoon, or if it's just because she's not even two. Initially the word "honeymoon" conjured up all sorts of good thoughts-- because a "honeymoon" clearly should -- but I'm starting to think that is not the case with diabetes. I feel like it's one more factor that makes figuring insulin that much harder. Maybe it's just me.

Does it get easier after the honeymoon?

And how long was your child's honeymoon. I've heard the "average" is anywhere from 2 months to 2 years. Sheesh.

I think about 6 months.

In some ways it is easier to "manage" once the pancreas stops "helping", but it's still hard to see their dose going up. Just try to remember that needing more insulin does not make your child any "sicker" and they are not "getting worse" Hard... I know

I chose less than 1 month, but I'm not sure if she really had one or not. Her doses got cut dramatically during a stomach bug 2 weeks after dx, but after that cleared she was "officially" out of the honeymoon (getting more than 0.5u/kg).

Well.. I either had NO honeymoon (or possibly one for about 2 weeks...) or I'm still having the honeymoon, 1.5 years after dx. So, I'm not really sure.

One night... we tried out the honeymoon. I guess he's not into it.

Seriously, we only had one night that acted like a honeymoon and it made me crazy. I expect we may yet have one... he's kind of "sputtering" here and there. Makes it very hard to know what to do with the insulin.

I'd say about 5 months for us. He was much easier to manage during the honeymoon - highs weren't as high and lows weren't as low.
