I'm excited to share that our local Lions Club is having a night promoting Spring Point Project in Jackson, Minnesota, on Nov. 24. Dr. Henk-Jan Shuurman, CEO of Spring Point and a professor at the Diabetes Institute for Transplantation and Immunology Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota, is coming to present their groundbreaking work curing diabetes in monkeys using islet cells from pigs. Dr. Bernhard Hering at the U of M proved it works, and it's one step from human trials, pending FDA approval.
Spring Point is the organization now raising pure pigs which will be used in human trials. You can learn more by going to
www.springpointproject.org.
It's another hopeful project for us D-parents to cling to.
Minnesota parents, if you want to attend, PM me and I'll forward the details.
