Before we got the CGM , I had something/someone wake me up. While I was asleep I heard a man's voice loudly say in my ear "Get up". I sat up in bed scared to death that someone was in the room. My husband was still asleep. He could sleep through a tornado. Anyway, since I was up I went down and checked my sons. My younger one was 50! I call that my guardian angel. One other time I thought I heard my son say mommy in the middle of the night. Maybe he did. He was asleep but he was low again.

I am always afraid of a significant low or a seizure that I didn't catch, but I've got two things in my favor -- 1) I am a very light sleeper and 2) Alex sleeps in the same bed. Because we have no access to glucagon here, I am definitely more worried, but at the same time, more vigilant, that I will catch a problem beforehand. At least, that's what I pray/hope for.

You don't have glucagon? Have you asked around here if anyone has some to send you?

I bet if you used a baby monitor you could hear things better. sometimes I've caught things when I just felt something wasn't right, I'd just have a feeling. maybe the cat woke me up or something.
Oh my gosh she had a seizure when she was high? I am with you I wake up by anything. Alot of the time it is a gut feeling. A mother thing. Haley had a seizure June 2007. It was strange. I just treated while my husband tested. But she sleeps with me.

I asked Alex's doctor about glucagon and wondered if they couldn't ask the distributor about getting it into the country (especially since it comes from Lilly and they are the ones who make the freakin' insulin we use), and her response was, as long as you're this careful about her numbers, you won't ever need it.

I don't know. Watching the YDMV stuff on this board frightens the heck out of me.

The next time I come to the states for vacation, I'll ask my sister's pediatrician about giving me a prescription for it, and just fork over the cash for it (we've no insurance coverage here).

In the meantime, I've got glucose gel always at the ready!

Well, I just wanted to chime in that in 20+ years of type-1 diabetes, Brian has never had a seizure or had to use glucagon. Connor has not had a seizure or had to use glucagon since he was diagnosed 2 years ago. So - there is hope! Knock on wood of course .

It's happened to us.....a lot more than I like.
Let's just say, you never forget the first time.
Our endo is checking them for celiac on friday, doing an ekg and other blood work, ruling out other problems. The "other" problems don't worry me at all, I know in most of the incidences what the trigger was. Just letting the endo do her job.
She did tell me that after a seizure the next 48 hrs you are more likely to have another. Depleted liver stores. THAT I did not know, after 9 years of this.

I have also wondered this - because Willow often has high morning snack numbers and most mornings wakes up around 70 or inthe mid 60s (this morning was 62. We does right away for breakfast and hope that it will kick in to help with the snack-time numbers - but it is hit and miss. (ex. 7:00 wake - bg 62, give 2 units of hum, then eat 20 min later 45 carbs)

I have randomly tested in the middle of the night - 3 am, 4 am, 2 am - and we rarely have lows - usually in the mid 100's - so that made me rule out the dawm phenom. The lows are always at wake time (7:00 am-ish)

As far as I know we have not had any seizures - but I worry about this too. We have an endo appt on Wed - I'll add this to my list of ??'s.

My friend's sixteen year old daughter had a seizure at night while on vacation. Luckly they were sleeping the same room with her or they may have not heard it. It was caused by insulin stacking with her pump they think. She entered many different snacks and guessing at some on the vacation. Also, activity walking around. She believes she keep bolusing for snacks without entering the BG . The activity was burning up some of the carbs so she really didn't need all the insulin for the snacks.
It was a Grand 'mal' ? seizure. She didn't have glucogon with her. They used sugar packets in the room and called 911. They poured the sugar packets in her mouth. Seemed to stop the seizure. She had rolled under the bed and was jerking. It took two adults to be able to pull her out.

I'm reading about lows at night right now in the Think Like a Pancreas book, p.177. He says death from lows at night are very rare. I have to fix dinner now, but I'm going to read further later....
